Tank Abbott: I can knock Brock Lesnar out in 10 seconds

In the news out of Imaginary Land, Tank Abbott thinks he can knock out Brock Lesnar in 10 seconds.

Oh Tank.

Let’s not forget this is a guy that has a 10-14 career record and was submitted by Frank Mir from a toe hold.

Abbott could knock out Brock Lesnar if Lesnar stood still and let Tank get one clean shot. Other than that, it ain’t happening.

It would be like Royce Gracie saying he could submit Matt Hughes. Sure, if Hughes just laid on the ground like a dead fish. But, when the two actually got into the octagon together, it was another story.

Hey Tank, I think Tim Sylvia is looking for an opponent. Maybe you can still knock him out in a real fight.

Maybe this is why GSP couldn’t see

Well, I knew while I was watching Georges St. Pierre take on Jake Shields on Saturday night that St. Pierre’s eye issue didn’t come from a rabbit punch jab by Shields.

Here is clear video evidence of a pretty ugly eye poke during the fight.

Let me just state for the record that I don’t think this was intentional, but it was a pretty sloppy way of striking in a title fight at the UFC level. It almost looks as if Shields was trying to lay down an infamous Nick Diaz “Stockton slap.”

But, given the troubles Alan Belcher has had getting back into the octagon due to an eye injury, you hope that this won’t plague St. Pierre for a long time and he will be able to get back to training soon.

A look back: GSP’s first MMA bout

As Georges St. Pierre preps for what could be his final bout at welterweight this Saturday at UFC 129 against Jake Shields, I found the current UFC champion’s first MMA contest.

GSP stepped onto the scene on Jan. 25, 2002 when he took on Ivan Menjivar at UCC 7.

While St. Pierre wasn’t crisp in all areas, he still showed the promise to become the great champion he is today.

Even for a first-time fighter he showed a rare combination of diverse strikes and solid takedown defense. Typically a debut fighter is strong in one area and lacking in the other.

Unfortunately, the fight ended with a bit of controversy, but GSP was still clearly winning the fight and it was the beginning of a historic career.
